    About Us

    Who Are We?

    The Illawarra Legal Centre is an independent, not-for-profit, community based legal centre that has been open since 1985.

    We provide free legal services to the public by telephone, at our centre and at a range of outreach locations. We focus on helping people living with disadvantage and people with special needs.

    As one of nearly 180 community legal centres across Australia, we are proud members of Community Legal Centres Australia. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to our funding bodies, including the State and Commonwealth Governments, NSW Fair Trading, and the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services, and Indigenous Affairs. Their continued support enables us to champion justice and make a lasting impact in our community.

    When opening our doors in 1985, it was with 1 part-time solicitor and a roster of volunteer solicitors.  Fast forward 30+ years and our volunteers are still dedicating their time and effort to ensuring the inclusion of those often left behind, assisting people to realise their legal rights and promoting social justice for all.
