At Illawarra Legal Centre, we offer a range of free legal services to residents of the Illawarra including information, referral, advice and representation. Our solicitors provide legal advice in most areas of law:

Areas we DO advise in:
  • Employment Law

  • Discrimination

  • Fines

  • Victim’s Support

  • Credit and Debt Matters

  • Child Support – For carer parents only

  • Domestic Violence (AVO) – complainants only

  • Care and Protection (child protection)

Areas we do NOT advise in:
  • Non-carer parents in child support/family matter

  • Family Law

  • Landlords

  • Commercial Creditors

  • Respondents in discrimination and employment matters

  • Defendants in apprehended domestic violence matters (unless the defence is to a cross-application) and defendants in victim’s support matters

Please note that, except  for the areas in which we provide legal representation we may refer clients to a private solicitor if the issue requires longer, detailed consideration. Other useful free legal services links include Legal Aid and Law Access.

General Law phone advice is provided by appointment on:

Tuesday: 2:00pm – 4:30pm
Wednesday: 10:00am – 12:00pm

Migration Advice

A volunteer Registered Migration Agent provides free advice at the centre on the second Tuesday of each month.

Advice is given regarding any type of visa, with a focus on family visas, as well as general immigration and citizenship.

Advice is given on a “one-off” basis. Unfortunately we cannot take any migration matters as casework.

Face-to-Face Advice

Provided at the Illawarra Legal Centre on:

Thursdays from 6:00pm
Fridays from 2pm

You may make an appointment if you meet certain criteria:

1. Can’t use phone due to disability.
2. Your matters too complex for a call.
3. Needing to provide documents.
4. An interpreter is required.

We provide case work and legal representation in the following general law areas:

Appointments at Illawarra Women’s Health centre

We run an advice service at the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre in Warilla on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month between 10:00am – 12:00pm.

The Illawarra Women’s Health Centre is a women-only space at:

4 Belfast Avenue, Warilla. 

Appointments are necessary and made by contacting the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre on 4255 6800.

Drop-In Advice at Children’s Court

Here at Illawarra Legal Centre, we run a Drop-In Advice service at Port Kembla Children’s Court every Tuesday between 9:00am – 11:00am.

Civil Law advice is available for Children’s Court Attendees only.
