NAIDOC Week 5-12 July 2026
NAIDOC Week 2026: Fifty Years of Deadly
NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year’s theme, “Fifty Years of Deadly”, celebrates five decades of NAIDOC Week and honours the generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have fought for justice, shared culture, strengthened communities and created lasting change.
For 50 years, NAIDOC Week has been more than a celebration. It has been a platform for truth-telling, a recognition of survival and resilience, and an opportunity to celebrate the world’s oldest continuing cultures. It reminds us that progress has come through the determination of communities, Elders, advocates and young leaders who continue to inspire future generations.
As we celebrate this important milestone, we also look to the future. A future where culture continues to thrive, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices are heard and respected, and we all play a role in building a more just, inclusive and equitable Australia.
You can support NAIDOC Week and connect with your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities by attending events across the country.
This year you’ll find Illawarra Legal Centre at the following NAIDOC celebrations:
Tuesday 7 July – Warrawong NAIDOC Family Fun Day at Darcy Wentworth Park Warrawong
Thursday 9 July – CareWays NAIDOC Event at Koonawarra Community Centre
